about

After finding initial success with London grime collective, Roll Deep, MC Trim began building a sizeable body of solo work via a series of independently released mixtapes. The series secured him a dedicated following, not least thanks to a more leftfield approach to sound selection that looked far beyond the usual tried and tested sources of his contemporaries.

Collabs and releases on Tempa, R&S, Rinse and Planet Mu continued to follow more left of centre paths and last year’s debut solo LP on James Blake’s 1-800 Dinosaur was not so much an album, more an oddly compelling attempt to create a ground zero for a new genre.

Popping up here on Frits Wentink’s Bobby Donny label, we see Trim team up with Low End Activist mixing paranoia, self-aggrandisement and unexpected reference points within his unmistakable flow. Set to a background action of shuffling hats and low end rumbles, the resultant whole is a wonky garage track that skips along with such a natural momentum that it’s over before you’ve even processed half of it and you’re pressing play again. - Stamp The Wax
